About Del Mar
Del Mar Elementary School is an outstanding TK – 5 elementary school located in the wonderful community of Morro Bay. We are proud to also be home for a pre-school PEEP program, which supports our youngest learners with special needs. We have 19 classrooms, all with highly qualified teachers that support our school population of approximately 450 students.
Our outstanding staff believes that all children can learn and we strive to provide our students with a rigorous and relevant curriculum and ongoing opportunities to meet their academic as well as social/emotional potential.
We are a committed team of educators that welcomes our families and community members to join with us as we work toward our goal of success for all students. Volunteering in our classrooms or with our PTA is welcomed and encouraged. We believe that the needs of our students can best be met when we work together.
Welcome to Del Mar Elementary! It is an honor and privilege to be the principal of such a distinguished Title I elementary school!
We have a wide range of programs and activities to meet the needs and interests of our students. Some of the opportunities include: student council, homework club, Fluency Lab, Reading Recovery and Leveled Literacy Intervention (LLI), Drama Club, Running Club, Chess Club, band, Children’s Creative Arts Project, Battle of the Books, on site counseling, and the Big Brothers Big Sisters Program.
We have a truly outstanding PTA that works to raise funds for our school as well as to plan fun events such as the fall carnival, school assemblies, Walkathon, Variety Show, Book Fairs, Dunking with Dads, and educational field trips.
I am committed to fostering a safe and positive school climate, where children view themselves as active participants in their learning and develop the characteristics of a lifelong learner.
I value the many relationships that I have built with our school community and I encourage you to introduce yourself if you do not yet know me. Feel free to stop me in the halls or on the playground. If you’d like a more private conversation, Laurie Vallens or Stephanie Velte, in the front office, can schedule a time for us to meet.
I trust that our website will provide you with additional information and insight into what it means to be a “Dolphin” at Del Mar Elementary.
